The CABP has been able to rock the boat in Parliaments in Ottawa, and London and will continue to do so until we have pension parity…
In March 2021, in Ottawa, Paul Manly, MP, Green Party put forward a Motion to Parliament requesting the Canadian Government to have discussions with the UK Government regarding indexing our pensions. The Motion was passed unilaterally.
In November 2018, through the All Party Parliamentary Group for Frozen British Pensions (APPG), and the End Frozen Pensions campaign Group, further support was being sought through this Parliamentary event.
In October, 2018, 93 year-old World War Two veteran Anne Puckridge travelled from Canada to Westminster to meet MPs to tell them her story of living on a frozen pension. On 15 November, Anne then went to Number 10 Downing Street to hand in a petition of 267,100 signatures calling for an end to the injustice of frozen pensions.
Successive UK Governments have lied, cheated and prevaricated over this issue for more than 70 years. The British government is traitorous and disingenuous to it’s own people based solely on where they choose to retire. Time to engage in this fight for justice. In November 2018, Anne Puckridge discussed this with the BBC…
In September 2016, John Markham, who had been an advocate for British retirees in Canada for many years says he hopes the government will help negotiate a better deal on indexing UK pensions. The are 127,118 British retirees who live in Canada and don’t receive the annual increases in their UK pension payments.
In October 2013, in the run up to Remembrance Day, Vic Williams, who was a long time member of the CABP, made a personal appeal to David Cameron who was then the British Prime Minister. Vic, who was a decorated veteran of WW2, made this appeal on behalf of all veterans who are affected by the disgraceful treatment by the UK Government.
